A tragic incident occurred in a village located in Khed taluka of Pune district. A 35-year-old man lost his life due to severe burns caused by a house fire. Officials from the Pune Rural police suspect that the fire was ignited by a short circuit in the decorative lighting set up for the Ganesh festival. This unfortunate incident was discovered in the early hours of Sunday.
Officials from Khed police station under the Pune Rural police have identified the deceased as Vaibhav Jagannath Garud. He was a resident of Kharpudi Budruk village in Khed taluka, around 50 kilometres from Pune city. Garud worked at a private company in Chakan and was also a snake rescuer. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Tragic death of man
An officer from Khed police station said, “Preliminary information suggests that the family lives in two rooms which are a few metres apart. In one of the rooms, the family has installed a Ganesh idol along with decorative lighting strings. Saturday night, the family had dinner together. Garud slept in the room in which the Ganesh idol was installed. His wife and kids went to sleep in another room. In the early hours of Sunday, Garud was found dead with severe burns, and almost everything in the room was gutted.”
The officer added, “Initial probe points to the fire to have started due to a short circuit in the lighting arrangement. Further investigation is on.”
