A week after rescue efforts began at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool, families of the eight trapped workers anxiously await their safe return. Amid the Telangana tunnel collapse, Gurpreet Singh’s relatives have urged the government to speed up the operation, emphasizing that he is his family’s sole provider.
Another worker’s family also pleaded for a swift rescue, expressing deep distress over their loved one’s fate.
Gurpreet Singh’s uncle, Kalwan Singh, urged the government to rescue Gurpreet and the others trapped in the tunnel. He emphasized that Gurpreet is his family’s sole breadwinner. Arriving yesterday, he stated that the company assured them of a safe rescue.
“Among the eight trapped workers, one is my nephew, Gurpreet Singh from Punjab. He has been with the company for 20 years and supports his mother, wife, and two daughters. We desperately hope the government rescues all of them and reunites them with their families. His family is deeply distressed,” he said.

Under-construction tunnel collapses
In the Telangana tunnel collapse, a three-meter section of the roof in an under-construction stretch of the SLBC tunnel collapsed at the 14 km mark near Domalapenta, Nagarkurnool district, on February 22. The incident occurred just four days after construction resumed following a long pause. While some workers escaped, eight remain trapped.
Meanwhile, Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy updated on the rescue efforts, stating that officials have devised a foolproof plan to ensure rescuers’ safety while expediting the operation.
“The rescue team faced significant risks while attempting to save survivors. After assessing the situation over the past two days, we have devised a concrete plan to minimize dangers and accelerate operations. We are now moving swiftly to complete the rescue and relief efforts within two days,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy.
