Owaisi slams Congress for blaming EVMs after Haryana polls

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticised the Congress for not capitalising on anti-incumbency in Haryana, attributing the BJP’s victory to Congress’s internal conflicts. Owaisi slammed Congress for blaming EVMs after their defeat in the Haryana assembly elections, just a day after the BJP secured its third consecutive term in power. He remarked that Congress only questions the integrity of EVMs when they lose, stating, “It is very easy to blame EVMs. You win due to EVMs and when you lose, then it is wrong.”

Owaisi further highlighted that, despite several factors going against the BJP, the Congress failed to take advantage of the situation. He said, “Congress should have capitalised on the 10 years of anti-incumbency, but due to their internal differences, the BJP benefited. If you give the BJP even a small opening in an electoral battle, they will capitalise on it.”

He also criticised Congress for missing a golden opportunity to defeat the BJP, especially given their position as the main opposition. Owaisi added, “After the 2024 Parliament elections, I had said that those claiming BJP’s success is driven by hatred were wrong. It’s not the case. You (Congress) had a chance to defeat them, but you failed.”

Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, described the Haryana election results as “unexpected” and raised concerns over EVMs, particularly in Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat. The Election Commission, however, dismissed these allegations, calling them “ill-founded” and rejecting attempts to create “irresponsible, unfounded, and uncorroborated” narratives.

BJP Secures 48 Seats in Haryana, Defies Exit Polls

The BJP defied exit polls, securing 48 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly, while Congress won 37 seats. Independents secured three seats, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won two. Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the victory, stating that all communities had supported the BJP due to their good governance policies.
