Polling for the Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on November 20, with vote counting scheduled three days later. The main contenders for power are the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
As nominations concluded on Tuesday, the seat-sharing arrangements within both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition MVA have become clear. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting the highest number of seats among the major parties, fielding candidates in 148 assembly constituencies. Meanwhile, Congress has nominated 103 candidates for these critical elections.

Shinde-led Shiv Sena Fields 80 Candidates
In the upcoming November 20 elections for Maharashtra’s 288-member state assembly, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has nominated 80 candidates, while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s NCP has fielded 53 contestants.
Five seats were given to other Mahayuti allies while no decision was taken on two segments.

MVA Finalizes Seat-Sharing Arrangement
In the Opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Congress has fielded candidates in 103 seats, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has nominated 89 candidates and the NCP (SP) has put forward 87 nominees. Additionally, six seats have been allocated to other MVA allies, with uncertainty remaining over three assembly segments.
8,000 candidates in the fray
Nearly 8,000 candidates have submitted nominations for the 288 assembly seats, including representatives from major ruling and opposition parties. According to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), a total of 7,995 candidates filed 10,905 nominations. The Election Commission (EC) for the November 20 elections.
The nomination process, which began on October 22, concluded on October 29. Nomination papers will be verified and scrutinized on October 30, while candidates have until 3 pm on November 4 to withdraw their nominations.
