The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the schedule for upcoming assembly elections on Friday at approximately 3 PM. Although the ECI’s media invite for the press conference does not specify which states will be covered, there is significant speculation that the announcement will focus on Haryana and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The ECI’s recent visits to these regions—along with the absence of similar visits to Maharashtra and Jharkhand—have fueled these speculations.

The announcement is expected to detail key dates including nomination filing deadlines, polling dates, and result declaration timelines. For Haryana, where the legislative assembly term ends on November 3, and Jammu & Kashmir, where elections are anticipated before September 30 as per the Supreme Court’s deadline, the scheduling is eagerly awaited.

Maharashtra and Jharkhand are also approaching the end of their assembly terms, with Maharashtra’s term concluding on November 26. It is possible that elections in these states may be scheduled at a later date.

The ECI is also emphasizing the use of technology to ensure free and fair elections. The cVigil App will be available for reporting any electoral malpractices, while voters can use the KYC App to learn about their candidates. Additionally, candidates can access various electoral facilities through the Suvidha Portal.

This comprehensive announcement is anticipated to address the electoral timeline and the ECI’s commitment to leveraging technology for an impartial electoral process.
