J P Nadda, the national head of the BJP, emphatically urged his leaders on Monday to make sure their party wins every one of the nine upcoming Assembly elections this year, which will serve as a precursor to the 2024 general election. Ravi Shankar Prasad said:

“He exhorted the party to be ready with full commitment to see that the BJP wins all nine states this year as a prelude to 2024. We should not lose a single state. The party workers have to tighten the belt and the party should not be defeated,”

The recent Assembly election in Gujarat, where the BJP scored a “extraordinary and historic success,” would be followed by the party cadres and state units, according to Nadda. The state unit, with all of its leaders and employees, operated from the booth level, and the prime minister had led the election from the front. It will be necessary to duplicate the laborious effort and booth-level work, Prasad added, quoting Nadda’s advice to the party members.

Referring to Himachal Pradesh debacle, Nadda said the party as an organisation had failed to read the intensity of the anti-incumbency factor and could not work to contain it, sources said. Nadda said rebels ignored the party’s interests.
