    Nitish Kumar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s recent meeting with RJD leader and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav to discuss the appointment of two information commissioners fueled speculation about him reconnecting with the Opposition. However, on Friday, Kumar dispelled these rumors by reassuring the BJP that he would not make the same mistake of aligning with the RJD as he had done before. He made these remarks after meeting Union Minister and BJP president J P Nadda, who also showed a friendly gesture by meeting Kumar and later sharing the stage with him.

Nitish Kumar Reaffirms JD(U)’s Commitment to NDA Amid Speculation

This wasn’t the first time Nitish Kumar clarified JD(U)’s loyalty to the NDA, given his past shifts in alliances. In June, following the Lok Sabha election results where the BJP fell 32 seats short of a majority, a video of Nitish and Tejashwi sharing the same flight to Delhi sparked speculation, prompting clarifications from his party. After rejoining the NDA in January, Nitish firmly pledged not to return to the Mahagathbandhan, criticizing the RJD leader for “not doing anything.”

    Nitish Kumar’s Strategic Politics

Nitish’s reaffirmation of his tie-up with the BJP is part of his now tried-and-tested twin-track politics of keeping the Opposition guessing. When in the Mahagathbandhan, the Bihar CM kept his communication channels with the BJP open as he had done with the RJD when he was in the NDA from 2017 to 2022. After his latest return to the NDA, he has stuck to his position on a nationwide caste census, an issue on which the BJP has struggled to frame its argument.
