    Reports suggest that the committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind will likely present a report on One Nation One Poll (ONOP) to President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday. It has also been report that the committee will meet with President Murmu today. Sources indicate that the committee will submit a report to the President, which consists of approximately 18,000 pages divided into eight sections.

    Committee’s Mandate and Focus

    The anticipated report will also emphasize the implementation of a unified electoral roll for conducting Lok Sabha, state assembly, and local body elections.

    Established in September last year, the committee has the task of reviewing and providing suggestions for conducting synchronized elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats, while considering the current constitutional framework.

    Composition of the Committee

    Chaired by Ram Nath Kovind, the committee comprises members such as Home Minister Amit Shah, former Rajya Sabha leader of the opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chairman of the finance commission NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash Kashyap, and senior advocate Harish Salve.

    Initially appointed as a member, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress leader in Lok Sabha, declined, criticizing the committee as merely for show.

    Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has been specially invite to attend the panel.
