Historic Lok Sabha Speaker Election Between Om Birla and K Suresh

The opposition’s pick for the Lok Sabha speaker Kodikunnil Suresh will go up against the BJP’s Om Birla in a battle for the post. This is happening for the first time in decades – after the two failed to agree a division of seats.

Meanwhile, the oath-taking of newly elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha resumed today, the second day of the first session of the Lower House of Parliament.The NDA, which has 293 MPs in the 543-member Lok Sabha, enjoys a clear majority, with the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc having 234 MPs.

Floor leaders of INDIA bloc parties to meet at Kharge’s residence tonight

Floor leaders of the Opposition bloc, the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)’, will meet today at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence following the announcement of K Suresh as their candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The meeting is scheduled for 8 pm at Kharge’s residence in Delhi, where the leaders are expected to discuss the upcoming speaker election on June 26.
