    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has scheduled to meet his Maldivian counterpart, Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon, in New Delhi on January 8. Maumoon will be visiting India from January 8 to 10 for a three-day trip. The discussions will center on strengthening and broadening defence cooperation, including joint training programs, routine exercises, capacity-building efforts, defence equipment support, and high-level workshops.

    Maldivian counterpart: Emphasis On Defence Parternship

    The upcoming meeting highlights the continuous efforts to strengthen defence ties between the two countries. Key aspects of cooperation include joint training, where the Indian Armed Forces contribute to enhancing the operational skills of personnel. India has also provided patrol vessels and assisted in modernizing the Maldives National Defence Forces. Regular joint exercises such as “Ekuverin” further enhance interoperability between the two militaries.

    Strategic Partnership In The Indian Ocean

    As key players in the IOR, India and the Maldives share a commitment to maintaining maritime security and addressing transnational threats such as piracy, trafficking, and terrorism. Enhanced defence ties align with India’s broader goals of ensuring peace and stability in the region while countering the influence of external powers.
