Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres concerts had a major positive effect on local businesses, as fans spent heavily on hotels, transport, food, and other services. The British rock band took India by storm in January, performing five massive shows in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Crowds flooded online ticket queues and later packed into the DY Patil and Narendra Modi stadiums, making it one of the most epic concert experiences India has seen. A recent report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow Live breaks down the full impact of these events.

According to the report, Coldplay’s concerts in Ahmedabad attracted 2.2 lakh attendees and generated a massive ₹640 crore boost to the economy. Of that, ₹392 crore had a direct impact on Ahmedabad itself. The shows also added ₹72 crore in GST revenue for the Indian government, highlighting their strong economic influence. The Music Of The Spheres tour put Ahmedabad on the global entertainment map, with fans pouring in from over 500 cities across all 28 states and 5 union territories.

The report also highlights the huge spike in activity at Ahmedabad’s airports and hotels. During the three-day concert window, 1.38 lakh people flew into the city, with a record 47,000 arrivals on the first day alone. The metro system hit all-time high ridership, and hotel prices, usually around ₹15,000 during peak times, skyrocketed to ₹50,000–₹90,000 just 48 hours after the concert dates were announced.

BookMyShow’s survey of over 2,800 fans revealed that for every ₹100 spent on tickets, an extra ₹585 went towards travel, food, shopping, and stays—boosting Ahmedabad’s local economy. Half the attendees stayed more than a night, giving the hospitality sector a solid lift.

The concerts also created around 15,000 temporary jobs, with 9,000 locals hired. Coldplay—Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—performed in Mumbai and Ahmedabad from Jan 18–26, with their final show streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.
