Ben Affleck, Matt Damon team up for story of Nike director Sonny Vaccarro

Ben Affleck is all ready to work with Matt Damon for a film that will outline the story of how sports trade director Sonny Vaccarro supported shoe company Nike to ensure collaboration with basketball legend Michael Jordan in the mid-80s.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck will direct, write, co-star, and produce the untitled sports trade drama while Damon will star and write and produce. Mandalay Pictures, owner Peter Guber and Jason Michael Berman, will also produce the film.

The publication reported that Damon will seen portraying the role of Nike director Sonny Vaccarro. Affleck will step into the shoes of Nike co-founder Phil Knight, an approval that appeared unbelievable at the time but thanks to the maverick sneaker salesman, would become the most important connection between an athletic brand and an athlete. The contract established the global, multi-billion-dollar stylish sneaker industry and helped the sport do the same.

The project will mainly focus on Vaccarro’s longshot effort to sign superstar basketball player Michael Jordan.

Also, the film will hail from Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports, which are in the process of finalising their deal.

Matt and Ben are now updating the script for the film, which will be the first part from David Ellison’s Skydance Sports division. Skydance already has a relation to the sports world via its investor, RedBird Capital.

The film will mark the first time Affleck will direct a feature along with his long-time pal, Damon. The two also triumphed in an Oscar for writing the script for ‘Good Will Hunting’. Which star Damon and had Affleck in a supportive role and directed by Gus van Sant. Last year, both of them reunited for the film ‘The Last Duel’, directed by Ridley Scott. Matt Damon again starring and Ben Affleck in a supporting role.
