Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming web series, “Heeramandi The Diamond Bazaar”. Describing it as his “biggest” project to date. Despite being known for grand-scale films, Bhansali stated that he has taken it up a notch in the digital realm. He expressed surprise at the outcome of “Heeramandi,” emphasizing that it goes beyond being just a series, forming an entire world.
The series marks Bhansali’s debut in the OTT space and features a star-studded ensemble cast. Including Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal.Set in Heeramandi, Lahore, during the pre-independence era in undivided India. the series unfolds amid multiple power struggles and the emergence of anti-colonial freedom movements. The first look was shared on Instagram by Netflix India, describing it as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first-ever series.
The show is centered around the courtesans of Lahore and is characterized as an ambitious, grand, and all-encompassing series. Bhansali expressed a mix of nervousness and excitement about the project, looking forward to the global audience’s reception on Netflix. The series is said to be a blend of love, betrayal, succession, and politics within the kothas (houses of courtesans).
