    On Monday, Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion ensemble, ‘Shakti,’ clinched the Grammy Awards for ‘Best Global Music Album’ with their latest release, ‘This Moment.’

    A Grammys official X (formerly known as Twitter) account shared a picture depicting Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, accepting the award on stage. “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy wrote in the post.

    Shankar Mahadevan Dedicates Grammy Win to Wife in Heartfelt Acceptance Speech

    In an acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.” The musician’s speech evoked a loud cheer from the crowd.

    The album ‘This Moment’, released on June 30 last year, features eight songs created by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist). They received Grammy nominations alongside fellow artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

    Meanwhile, Zakir Hussain also secured the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Grammy for his contribution to ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia – a virtuoso flute player.

    Ustad Zakir Hussain made India proud as he bagged three awards at the 66th Grammy Awards, presented in the US. The tabla player and music composer picked up the coveted award in Best Global Music Performance category for Pashto. He is, is also part of the Jazz group Shakti that won ‘he best Global Music album award for its latest album This Moment. He also won in the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
