    An Indian student, Neelam Shinde, has been in a coma following an accident in the US earlier this month. Her family in Maharashtra is seeking the Centre’s help in obtaining a visa to visit her. She was reportedly hit by a four-wheeler on February 14 in California and is currently in the ICU. The police have arrested the driver.

    Family Struggles for Visa

    Neelam’s father, Tanaji Shinde, stated that they learned about the accident on February 16 and have been trying to secure a visa since then but have not been successful. Due to visa appointment delays, the earliest available slot is next year, making it difficult for the family to reach her in time.

    Supriya Sule Seeks Government Intervention

    NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule has urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to assist Mr. Shinde in obtaining a visa. Despite political differences, she praised the Ministry of External Affairs for its consistent support in helping Indian students abroad. She has also reached out to the US Embassy in Mumbai and posted an appeal on her official X account.

    Medical Condition and Hospital Updates

    According to her family, the accident caused multiple fractures in Neelam’s hands and legs, along with severe head injuries. The hospital sought permission from her family to perform brain surgery. She remains in a coma, and the hospital has been providing daily health updates to her relatives.
