India is set to fulfill 70 % of the world’s vaccine needs against the novel coronavirus

India is set to fulfill 70 percent of the world’s vaccine needs against the novel coronavirus that has left hundreds of thousands of people killed, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, while adding that two vaccines are currently being transported to 14 countries under Vaccine Maitri program. Speaking at the inauguration of a private medical college, the home minister said, “India is set to fulfill 70 percent of the world’s coronavirus vaccine needs.

Two vaccines are being exported to 14 countries.” He stated that 55 lakh people in the country have been inoculated so far in the last days while adding that the Centre is looking forward to expediting the vaccination process as more vaccines are in developing phase. Notably, India has two approved vaccines as of now.

“India’s line of treatment during the pandemic is being followed by 170-odd countries in the world,” he said. “The big difference in the fight against Covid-19 was that in India, the central government, the state governments, doctors, health workers, and 130 crore people together handled the situation, unlike other countries,” Shah added.

The Union Minister also hailed India’s response to the deadly disease as he highlighted that the country has one of the lowest death rates with the best recovery rate across the globe.

“Our (COVID-19) death rate is low and our recovery rate is the best,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepared the country to handle the situation. “Through Janata Curfew, he prepared people for the lockdown,” he said.
