Mumbai reported its first death from Guillain-Barré Syndrome on Wednesday, bringing Maharashtra’s total death toll to eight, while Pune’s cases rose to 197.

A 53-year-old patient with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday, marking the city’s first death from the rare neurological disorder and the eighth in Maharashtra, according to ANI, citing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. Earlier, a 37-year-old driver from Pune also died from the illness on Tuesday.

Mumbai’s first Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) case reported in a 64-year-old woman
Mumbai reported its first case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) on Friday, with a 64-year-old woman diagnosed with the disorder, confirmed civic officials. In a statement to PTI, BMC commissioner and state-appointed administrator Bhushan Gagrani mentioned that the patient is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a municipal hospital.

Pune region’s GBS cases rise to 197 with five new detections
Meanwhile, the number of suspected and confirmed GBS cases in Maharashtra’s Pune region has increased to 197 following the detection of five new cases. A health department official stated that this total includes two new cases and three previously reported ones.
172 out of 197 GBS cases confirmed in Pune
The breakdown includes at least 40 patients from Pune Municipal Corporation areas, 92 from newly included villages in the PMC, 29 from Pimpri Chinchwad civic limits, 28 from Pune Rural, and eight from other districts.
