At least 27 people lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike targeting a school in Gaza

At least 27 people killed in Israeli airstrike on school in Gaza.

In a major escalation amid the ongoing war, recent Israeli airstrikes on Thursday claimed the lives of at least 100 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, including over 27 people who had taken refuge in a school in the north, according to Palestinian medical officials.

Health Ministry spokesman Zaher al-Wahidi reported that 14 children and five women were among the bodies recovered from the school in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood. The death toll could rise further, as some of the 70 injured are in critical condition.

Additionally, more than 30 residents of Gaza were killed in airstrikes targeting homes in the nearby Shijaiyah neighborhood, based on records from Ahli Hospital.

Israel targeted a “Hamas command center” in Gaza City and claimed to minimize civilian harm. A similar justification followed a UN shelter strike that killed 17. Hamas called the school attack a “heinous massacre.” Israel ordered more evacuations in northern Gaza, forcing many to flee on foot.

    Mass Displacement Amid Escalating Conflict

Ahead of expected ground operations, Israel’s evacuations have displaced 280,000 Palestinians, the UN says. Mohammad Ermana, 72, described the hardship, saying he and his wife walked three hours but barely advanced. “Now I search for safety every hour,” he said.

Israel issued new evacuation orders after announcing plans to seize parts of Palestinian territory and create a security corridor. It has also enforced a month-long blockade on food, fuel, and aid, which rights groups call a war crime. Hamas refuses to release 59 hostages—24 believed alive—unless Israel frees Palestinian prisoners, agrees to a ceasefire, and withdraws from Gaza.

Israeli airstrikes overnight killed at least 55 people, including children and women, according to hospital officials. Many casualties were reported in Khan Younis, Gaza City, and central Gaza, with bodies taken to multiple hospitals.
