Multiple reports indicate that a devastating fire in a building in the southern Mangaf district of Kuwait has killed at least 41 people, with several Indians feared to be among the victims. The blaze broke out early Wednesday morning reportedly in a kitchen on a lower floor and quickly spread through the building, trapping many inside.

Kuwait Fire Claims Lives of Kerala Workers, Embassy Establishes Helpline
According to Onmanorama, five individuals from Kerala were among those who perished in the fire. Onmanorama reported that the NBTC group, led by Malayali businessman KG Abraham, owns the building, which housed around 195 laborers, including workers from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
“In light of the tragic fire involving Indian workers today, the Embassy has established an emergency helpline at 965-65505246. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait urged all concerned to use the helpline for updates and committed to providing all possible assistance, according to a post on X.

Jaishankar Expresses Shock Over Kuwait Fire, Assures Full Assistance
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed his shock at the incident and mentioned that the Indian ambassador has visited the camp.
“Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City. Reports indicate over 40 deaths and more than 50 people hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information,” Jaishankar posted on X.
“My deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. I wish a swift and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will provide the fullest assistance to all those affected,” he added.

Authorities Contain Fire, Launch Investigation into Cause
KUNA reported that authorities have contained the fire and are now searching the area for clues about its cause.
“A large number of workers were present in the building where the fire broke out. Rescuers saved many, but unfortunately, numerous fatalities resulted from smoke inhalation,” a senior police commander informed state TV.
“We consistently alert and warn against overcrowding workers in housing facilities,” he added, without specifying the type of employment or the workers’ place of origin.
Authorities have announced the initiation of an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
