The Israel Defense Forces announced on Tuesday morning that they had successfully regained control over their previously breached border with the Gaza Strip.

This came approximately 72 hours after Hamas militants breached sections of the barrier and launched an incursion, resulting in the abduction or killing of more than 1,000 Israeli citizens.

As Israel struggled to fathom the increasing depth of Saturday’s horrors, Air Force planes blasted significant areas of the Strip, and the IDF officially told hostage families that their loved ones were being held in Gaza. The toll of casualties in the continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas has exceeded 3,000. This includes over 1,000 fatalities and 2,700 injuries in Israel, and at least 900 fatalities and 4,250 injuries in Gaza, as reported by both Palestinian and Israeli health services.

Israel also claims that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza are holding over 150 hostages, including both soldiers and civilians.

Humanitarian organisations issued urgent pleas for the establishment of safe corridors to deliver essential aid into Gaza. They emphasized that overwhelmed hospitals were running critically low on supplies. Israel had previously halted the flow of food, fuel, and medicines into Gaza, and the last access point from Egypt ceased operation after airstrikes struck near the border crossing on Tuesday.

According to reports, the large-scale hostage-taking implies that Hamas may intend to use them as leverage for a potential prisoner exchange and possibly as human shields when Israel retaliates in Gaza.

    2,901 Evacuated to Hospitals

Of these evacuees, 535 remain hospitalised, with their conditions varying as follows: one individual is in critical condition, 105 in serious condition, 282 in moderate condition, and 167 in light condition.

The renowned Spanish clothing giant Inditex, the parent company of the popular brand Zara, has officially declared the “temporary” closure of all its 84 stores situated in Israel. This decision comes amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the stores will remain closed until further notice.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the top spokesperson for the IsraelDefence Forces (IDF), has underlined the strategic imperative of targeting senior Hamas members. The IDF considers the elimination of these key figures to be a top priority in its ongoing efforts.
