Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded The Order of Excellence, Guyana’s highest honor, by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The recognition, received during the final leg of PM Modi’s three-nation tour after the G20 Summit in Brazil, celebrates his outstanding global leadership, statesmanship, and efforts to strengthen India-Guyana relations.

PM Modi to Receive Top Honours from Barbados and Dominica
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive the Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados, the highest award from Barbados, following Dominica’s announcement of its Dominica Award of Honour. Dominican President Sylvanie Burton conferred this recognition for PM Modi’s efforts during the COVID-19 crisis and his dedication to strengthening India-Dominica relations.
Previously, Nigeria honored PM Modi with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), making him the second foreign leader to receive this distinction after Queen Elizabeth in 1969.
With these honors, PM Modi’s tally of international accolades has reached 19.
PM Modi’s Historic Visit to Guyana: Strengthening Ties and Honouring Shared Heritage
Earlier, during his visit to Guyana, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years, PM Modi was welcomed at the airport by President Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister Mark Phillips.
Following his arrival, the prime minister also met with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley at a hotel in Georgetown.
The Prime Minister earlier noted, “My visit to Guyana, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, will be the first-ever visit of an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years. We will exchange views on giving strategic direction to our unique relationship, which is based on shared heritage, culture and values. I will also pay my respects to one of the oldest Indian diaspora, who migrated more than 185 years ago, and engage a fellow democracy, as I address their Parliament.”
PM Modi’s five-day international trip started with a visit to Nigeria, followed by the G20 Summit in Brazil and then to Guyana.
