The first-of-its-kind international conference on “Shared Buddhist History,” which starts here on Tuesday. It will feature more than 15 academics and delegates presenting research papers on various relevant issues.
The two-day gathering will bring together Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian. Also West Asian nations on a shared platform as part of India’s chairmanship of the SCO. It will run from September 2022 to September 2023, the ministry said in a statement on Monday. The meeting gains significance at a time when India is attempting to assert its supremacy over China “as the home of Buddhism,” with Chinese delegations also confirming their presence.
The SCO Tourism Ministers’ conference :
On March 17 and 18, India will host the SCO Tourism Ministers’ conference in Varanasi. It has been designated as the organization’s first cultural capital.
Experts from the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Burma, the State Museum of History of Religion in Russia. Also the Dunhuang Research Academy in China are among those attending the two-day meeting.
The conference’s objectives, according to conference organisers, are to reestablish cross-cultural relations. Identify similarities among Central Asian Buddhist art, archaeological locations, and artefacts in the collections of various SCO states’ museums.
The World Buddhist Confederation, a grantee organisation of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also the Ministry of Culture are all involved in organising the programme. Many Buddhist experts from India will also attend the occasion.
The member members of the SCO include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia are observer states. SCO discussion partners include Cambodia, Nepal, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. Buddhism is among these that predominates in nations like China, Mongolia, Nepal, and Cambodia.
