Singapore passport now occupies the top spot on the Henley Passport Index as the world’s most powerful passport in 2023 with visa-free access to 192 travel destinations. The previous top-ranked nation, Japan, dropped to third place on the new list, which was unveiled on July 18.

Germany, Italy, and Spain, three European nations, tie for second place on the list with visa-free entry to 190 locations. Meanwhile, Japan dropped out of first place for the first time in five years. Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden also share the top spot with Japan.

As for India, it ranks 80 on the list. The Indian passport shares the spot with Senegal and Togo, with visa-free access to 57 destinations. With 101, 102 and 103 ranks respectively, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan are the world’s weakest passports. Pakistan is on the 100th spot.

According to the Singapore passport Henley Passport Index, 227 different travel locations accept 199 different passports without the need for a visa. One score is produced for that passport if a visa is not necessary. The same holds if you can secure a visa, visitor’s permission, or electronic travel authorization (ETA) upon arrival.

The UK increased two spots to take fourth position after a six-year slump. The most recent time was in 2017. Henley & Partners stated in the news release that “The US, on the other hand, continues its now decade-long slide down the index, plummeting a further two places to eighth spot with access to just 184 destinations visa-free.”

Both the UK and the US jointly held first place on the index nearly 10 years ago in 2014, but have been on a downward trajectory ever since. Those who possess a Singaporean passport can visit 192 countries visa-free Japan which dominated the top spot.
