Student takes a flight to his college to avoid exorbitant rent

    Flight

An Arts student from Calgary, Canada, devised a clever strategy to bypass steep rental costs in Vancouver. Instead of renting accommodation in Vancouver, he chooses to fly twice a week from Calgary, spending approximately $150 for each round-trip flight. This unconventional approach translates to nearly $1200 per month (approximately Rs 1 lakh), offering significant savings compared to renting in Vancouver.

The video of his interaction with a local news channel, News Vancouver, is doing rounds on the internet. In the video, the student explains that had he been staying in Vancouver, he would have to spend around $2500 per month for the rent. However, his decision to commute from Calgary to Vancouver, in an hour’s flight, twice a week costs him only $150 per round trip. “That’s half the average rent for a one-bedroom in the city,” the student said in the video.

Social Media Reacts on Strategy of Canadian Student

Following the video’s viral spread, social media users swiftly chimed in with their reactions. While some praised the student’s innovative approach, others expressed concerns regarding the airport logistics. One user remarked, “A one-hour commute isn’t too bad, but frequent airport visits would be tiresome. Plus, maintaining a rigid schedule could be challenging, and missing a flight would be a major inconvenience.” Another user noted, “Calgary domestic flights often face cancellations due to weather conditions.” Adding an international perspective, an Indian netizen humorously suggested that adopting this strategy could resolve the rental issues between Mumbai and Bengaluru. “Perhaps this is the solution to escape the Mumbai-Bengaluru rent hustle – just catch a flight,” they quipped.
