At least four Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) jawans of 50 battalion were killed and 3 were injured in a case of fratricide at a camp under Maraiguda Police Station limits in Sukma district on Sunday night.
“The jawan, identified as Reetesh Ranjan, opened fire on fellow soldiers in C/50 Lingalapalli under PS Maraiguda in early hours at about 3:45 am”, according to an official statement.
The incident took place when a jawan opened fire at the CRPF camp.
According to preliminary information, the jawan fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.
Seven personnel were seriously injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital for treatment. Four of them succumbed to their injuries.
Those killed were identified as constables Rajmani Kumar Yadav, Rajib Mondal, Dhanji and Dharmendra Kumar.
Two injured CRPF personnel are reportedly being airlifted to Raipur for treatment.
“The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident,” the official said.
Constable Reetesh Ranjan was immediately held and his interrogation is underway, the official said.
