Assembly Election, around 17 percent of electors exercised their franchise in the first two hours of polling in the agrarian constituency in the Purba Medinipur district.

Along with Bengal, polling for the second phase is underway at Assam too.
The fate of 345 candidates, including 26 women, is being decide by over 73.44 lakh voters in this phase.
Among those contesting the elections in this phase are five ministers and the deputy speaker of the outgoing House.
There have been no reports of violence or clashes among political activists in the constituency.
