Around 50 expensive smartphones were stolen from revellers on Saturday, who were attending DJ Snake’s concert in Bandra-Kurla-Complex (BKC). Six people were taken into custody for questioning and 15 mobile phones were recovered from them.
The deputy commissioner of police Dikshit Gedam of zone 8 said, “We have registered six offences based on the complaints given by people. Several people are being verified in the matter and one person has been arrested.”
Another officer said, as soon as people learnt about their mobile phones going missing from their pocket, they raised an alarm and some of them visited the people station immediately. Policemen deployed on bandobast at the venue started checking suspicious people’s pockets and their bags.
“Four out of six in custody were operating individually who came from Bhiwandi, Khar, Andheri and Bandra area to steal people’s mobile phones and valuables,” said a police officer.
Many concert-goers visited the BKC police station and an FIR was registered based on their statement. The people’s mobile phones were stolen during the concert that took place at MMRDA ground on Saturday night. We have been examining the CCTV footage of the vicinity to identify and apprehend the accused. Hundreds of people had attended the concert after booking their tickets online and the venue was packed. Taking advantage of the crowd, mobile thieves entered the crowd and stole their phones, added the official.
