Harnaaz Sandhu represented India today at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel. She is the new Miss Universe, 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.
She edged out contestants Paraguay and South Africa to claim the crown.
Sandhu was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico at the event which was live-streamed globally.
The 21-year-old from Punjab claimed the crown edging out Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane.
The contest was hosted by U.S. TV personality Steve Harvey. Organizers said the pageant was expected to reach an estimated 600 million viewers via the FOX network in 172 countries.
Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu:
Harnaaz is a model, dancer, actress. He started his career in Punjabi films. She has worked in “Yara Diya Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange”.
Harnaaz started her career with modeling. He was very young then. She has participated in many fashion events and competitions.
Harnaaz has been Miss Chandigarh. He won this title in the year 2017. In the same year, she was also awarded the title of Miss Chandigarh TimesFresh Face.
After this she went to Miss Mac Emerging Star India. She also participated in Miss Feminine.
Harnaaz Sandhu is currently pursuing Master’s degree in Public Administration. Harnaaz wants to make the country proud along with her parents.
She did her schooling from Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh. While she did post graduate from a girls college there.
As part of the top three rounds, the contestants were asked,
“What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today”
To this, Harnaaz said, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.”
