    In Pakistan, all social media platforms were blocked on Friday. The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), citing security on behalf of the country’s home ministry, has been ordered that, a four-hour social media platform across the country.

    The order effectively shuts down all social media platforms in Pakistan including Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and The telegram.

    The ministry told Geo News that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has banned social media platforms on their orders. Pakistan has banned all social media apps across the country on Friday due to violent Islamic groups. 

    According to Reuters, a telecommunications authority official said that move has been to taken to maintain the security system in country. This action was taken after the Home Ministry sent a letter to the PTA chairman. 

    The ministry in its letter urged the PTA to take immediate action. Abdul Razzaq, section officer of the ministry, wrote in letter. “There should be a complete ban on social media platforms across country from 11 am to 3 pm on April 16, 2021”.

    According to various media reports, the move has been taken in view of the anti-French protests in Pakistan. Law enforcement agencies in Lahore say the decision has been to taken prayers in view of the possibility of violent demonstrations by the Tehreek-e-Labbak (TLP) party. 

    The TLP is demonstrating the arrest of its leader Saad Hussain Rizvi and the cartoon controversy against France. Pakistan’s Imran Khan government had until 20 April to expel. The French ambassador for publishing cartoon of Prophet Mohammed, but before that police arrested the party’s chief Saad Hussain Rizvi. Whose Later the TLP started a nationwide protest.
