In these trends, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee seems to be gaining a clear majority.

Significantly, out of 292 assembly seats in West Bengal, a majority of 147 seats were required. Out of these TMC trends, once again taking the lead in 210 seats, clearly seems to be climbing the power ladder.

Since it is very difficult to come up against the opposite trends, the TMC seems to be putting on a hat-trick of victory in West Bengal.

Mamata not the first CM to lose, has to win bypoll in 6 months

At the same time, BJP is leading in 79 seats in West Bengal. However, compared to the 2016 elections, the BJP has gained a big lead. Then BJP and allies managed to win only three seats. Whereas last time TMC led by Mamta Banerjee had won 211 seats in the assembly elections.

In such a situation, it is believed that the PM Modi wave has not made any significant difference to the performance of TMC in West Bengal.

Even as the TMC is headed for landslide victory in West Bengal winning 198 seats and leading in 15 as of 11.45 pm. Mamata has lost to her former trusted lieutenant Suvendu Adhikari by a slim margin of 1956 votes, data on the Election Commission website said.

Earlier, while asking party workers to not fuel speculations before the counting is completed. Mamata had said she will accept the verdict of the people.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has demanded recounting in Nandigram constituency alleging a number of illegalities in the vote counting process. Although the Returning Officer has rejected the demand.

Earlier, speaking to the press in Kolkata, she said, “This is a victory for the people of Bengal. I am proud to say that Bengal saved the country. The Election Commission behaved badly with us — they behaved like BJP’s spokesperson. BJP played dirty politics and lost the election.”
