Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, who sought India’s support for the 10-point “peace formula” he proposed during his visit to the United States last week.

Modi and Zelenskyy have spoken on the phone four times since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. His formula calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, releasing of prisoners, restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and guarantees of nuclear safety, food, and energy security.

Since February 24, New Delhi has provided 12 consignments, totaling 99.3 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, to Ukraine and neighboring countries. These include medicines, blankets, tents, tarpaulin, and medical equipment.

Confirming the phone call, the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi said, in a statement, “The leaders exchanged views about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi strongly reiterated his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities. He said that both sides should revert to dialogue and diplomacy to find a lasting solution to their differences.”

“Prime Minister also conveyed India’s support for any peace efforts, and assured India’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian assistance for (the) affected civilian population,” the statement said.
