A 2023 report cautioned about the growing senior citizen population (aged 60 and above) in India. According to the Ageing Report 2023 by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the elderly population in the country is expected to rise from 10.1% in 2021 to 20.8% by 2050. In 2022, country had approximately 149 million people aged 60 and above, making up around 10.5% of the total population.
