    Devendra Fadnavis to be Maharashtra CM; Eknath Shinde & Ajit Pawar Likely Deputy CMs, Swearing-in on 5th Dec

    Devendra Fadnavis is set to take the oath as Maharashtra’s 21st Chief Minister on December 5, following the confirmation of his nomination during a crucial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) core committee meeting on Wednesday. The meeting, held prior to the Maharashtra legislature party session, saw key BJP leaders finalize the decision.

    Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Fadnavis were present at the meeting. Both Sitharaman and Rupani have been appointed as central observers for the upcoming Maharashtra legislature party session, reinforcing the BJP’s leadership in the state.

    As part of the ongoing developments, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan at 3:30 pm on Wednesday to formally stake their claim to form the new government. 

    The BJP’s victory in the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly elections marked a historic achievement, securing 132 out of the 288 seats. The alliance, with its coalition partners, now commands a commanding majority of 230 seats in the legislative assembly. This is the BJP’s best performance in Maharashtra to date.
