On Monday night, chaos erupted in Mumbai’s Kurla West when a BEST electric bus veered out of control for nearly 200 meters, hitting vehicles, pedestrians, and a police car before crashing into a residential building.
Zaid Ahmed, a Kurla resident and witness, remembered stepping out of his house to go to the railway station when a loud noise stopped him in his tracks.
“I rushed to the scene and saw a BEST bus had struck pedestrians and several vehicles, including an autorickshaw and three cars. I witnessed several lifeless bodies right before my eyes,” he said.

The 26-year-old resident stated that the driver was speeding, and the bus veered uncontrollably for around 200 meters before colliding with several vehicles on the road.
Eyewitnesses Recall Kurla BEST Bus Crash Chaos
“We helped rescue passengers from the autorickshaw and transported them to Bhabha Hospital in another three-wheeler. My friends also assisted in aiding the injured,” Ahmed recalled.
Zeeshan Ansari, a witness, said, “I was standing in front of the Royal Sweets shop with my friends when I noticed a bus being driven recklessly.”
Another witness, Zeeshan Ansari, said that after colliding with several vehicles and pedestrians, the bus crashed into Buddha Colony. He and others quickly arrived at the scene and pulled the bus driver out.
“Many people were lying in pools of blood. A crowd gathered at the scene and began taking the injured to the hospital,” Ansari said.
Other witnesses stated that the bus, traveling on route 332 from Kurla to Andheri, also crashed into a police vehicle.
The 12-meter-long electric bus, built by Olectra, was leased to BEST under a wet lease agreement. Officials stated that the private operator provides the drivers for these buses.
