    Atal Setu Bridge

    A 38-year-old engineer, previously employed by Lodha, allegedly leapt from Atal Setu Bridge on Wednesday afternoon. The individual, identified as Karuturi Srinivas from Palava city in Dombivali, resided with his wife and their five-year-old daughter.

    Police inspector Anjum Bagwan said, “The victim has been identified as K Shriniwas, as we found his documents that he left on the bridge. He arrived in his own car and took the extreme step.” A search was on for him, said an official late in the evening.

    Shriniwas’ Jump from Atal Setu Bridge and Subsequent Search Operation

    A police official reported that Shriniwas jumped into the sea after parking his car at the Nhava Sheva end of the Atal Setu on the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link around 12:30 PM. Navi Mumbai police, along with Atal Setu rescue teams, coastal police, and local fishermen, initiated a search operation for him, the official added.

    Shriniwas, who left his residence around 11.30pm on Tuesday night, had spoken to his wife and four-year-old daughter over phone hours before taking the extreme step, the official said. Earlier, he had tried to die by suicide by drinking a floor cleaner liquid while working in Kuwait in 2023, the official added.
