The government of Maharashtra has decided to add two years to the maximum age for employment in the public sector. The state administration intends to assist those who were unable to apply due to the COVID-19 outbreak while simultaneously filling new posts with government workers.
For candidates in the open category, the new upper age limit is 40, while for those in the reserved category, it is 45. The decision was made in response to widespread requests for a modification of the age requirement from applicants for government jobs due to the time wasted as a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Several UPSC candidates have asked for a raise in the maximum age, citing the time wasted owing to the epidemic.
Benefits
The higher age restriction would reportedly only be lifted through December 31, 2023. Additionally, candidates should be informed that this relaxation would only be applicable to occupations for which different age restrictions have been established. This rule will be applicable to those advertisements that have already been published. This decrease of the upper age limit will benefit many candidates for government positions.
