While the incident, caught on CCTV, caused panic among residents in Amritsar’s Khandwala area, it did not result in any injuries. Sources revealed that police received specific intelligence about the suspects linked to the Amritsar grenade attack being seen in Rajasansi on Monday morning. Acting on this, dedicated teams from the CIA and SHO Chheharta moved swiftly to intercept the accused.
As police tried to stop the suspects’ motorcycle, they fled and opened fire. A bullet struck Head Constable Gurpreet Singh’s arm, another grazed Inspector Amolak Singh’s turban, and a third hit the police vehicle, intensifying the clash.
In self-defense, Inspector Vinod Kumar opened fire, injuring the main accused, while others escaped. The injured constables were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Police have intensified their search for the fugitives and continue investigating the incident.
Punjab Police suspect Pakistan’s ISI involvement, citing multiple explosions targeting police posts in Amritsar and Gurdaspur over the past four months.
