Andhra Pradesh woman fell into sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur

Five days after a 48-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, search efforts are still ongoing, according to the Indian High Commission in Malaysia. The tourist fell into the sinkhole on August 23 when the pavement beneath her gave way, and she was likely carried off by an underground water current, Malaysian police informed news agency AP. The Indian embassy in a post on X said that search and operation teams are methodically deducing new probable paths.

Andhra Pradesh : Search Intensified for Missing Woman in Kuala Lumpur with Advanced Techniques

The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur stated that after flushing parts of the drainage system, the search is being intensified with specialized techniques, including high-pressure water jets to clear obstacles, remote cameras, and ground-penetrating radars to map hard-to-reach areas. The High Commission also mentioned that they are in close communication with the agencies involved in the search, which has now entered its fifth day. Additionally, officers from the High Commission are in contact with the woman’s family to provide ongoing support.

Enhanced Search Efforts Continues

The sinkhole, located in Dang Wangi area, which the woman fell into was 8-meter-deep. The woman had come to Malaysia with her husband and several friends about two months ago for a vacation and they were due to return home Saturday, local police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman told AP. Sulaiman added witnesses saw the paved walkway suddenly collapse under her while she was walking. Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohamad Isa was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency that a soil slip was reported last year in the same location where the sinkhole appeared but that it was fixed.
