The out-of-favor batter went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Despite being listed twice with a base price of ₹75 lakh, no franchise showed interest in him. Shaw’s decline in recent years has also kept him out of the Indian cricket team. As a result, he will miss the upcoming IPL season for the first time.

For the first time since his IPL debut in 2018, Prithvi Shaw will miss an entire season.Beyond his struggles with form, the right-handed batter has faced heavy criticism from former India cricketers and experts regarding his behavior and fitness. Adding to the scrutiny, a former India selector has raised concerns about Shaw’s lack of progress.

“Prithvi has been part of Delhi Capitals, where he had opportunities to learn from legends like Rahul Dravid, his U-19 India coach, as well as Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly,” the selector, who has closely observed Shaw’s journey, told PTI.

“It’s well-known in Mumbai cricket circles that even Sachin Tendulkar has spoken to Prithvi Shaw. Are these legends wasting their time? Have you noticed any significant change in him? If there is any, it’s certainly not visible,” the former selector remarked.

Once a promising young star who captured the imagination of Indian cricket fans with his boyish charm and dynamic batting, Shaw now finds himself at a critical juncture in his career. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) initially dropped him from the Ranji Trophy squad due to fitness issues. However, they later recalled him for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
