The Congress resumes Rahul Gandhi’s march from Awantipora; the Yatra is currently moving towards Pampore, one day after it was suspended due to a “security violation.”

In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge begged for his help in providing sufficient security for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. His letter to Shah comes after the Bharat Jodo Yatra was called off for the day on Friday due to a “security breakdown,” according to the Congress, which claims that the Jammu and Kashmir Police withdrew security around Rahul Gandhi as the crowds during the foot march in Qazigund grew larger and larger.

The Congress said, “I would appreciate it if you could personally step in on this subject and advise the concerned officials to provide proper security up till the conclusion of the Yatra and the function on January 30 in Srinagar.”

On Saturday, Rahul continued his march from Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir. Before continuing on to Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, the Yatra would stop close to the Birla Open Minds International School in Pampore. After entering Kashmir on Friday, Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra was only able to travel a short distance before being suspended for the day due to an alleged security violation. The police refuted the claim made by Congress that they failed to provide Rahul and others with proper security. They asserted that the party officials left the Yatra without informing the police. The Yatra is expected to end on January 30 in Srinagar.
