The Uttar Pradesh Police and Forest Department are actively searching for two dangerous wolves under ‘Operation Bhediya’ in Bahraich district, following earlier success in capturing four wolves. These wolves are believed to be responsible for multiple attacks on villagers in the area.
Late Monday night (September 2), a five-year-old girl was injured in another suspected wolf attack in the same region. She was sleeping next to her grandmother at home when a wolf suddenly attacked her. Quick intervention by her family and neighbors saved her life, and she was subsequently taken to the Community Health Centre Mahasi for treatment.

Kalim, a neighbor, told ANI that upon hearing the family’s screams, they rushed to help and managed to chase the wolf away, though it ultimately escaped. He also mentioned that this was the first time a wolf had entered their village. After the incident, officials from the administration and the Forest Department arrived at the site. Despite attempts to chase the wolf, it managed to escape into the eastern fields. “This was the first time a wolf entered our village,” one resident noted.

The injured girl’s relative, Wasi Ahmad, recounted that after dinner, she went to sleep with her grandmother when a wolf attacked. “When we screamed, it ran away. There’s no gate at our house,” he added. The girl’s grandmother confirmed that the child was sleeping beside her when the attack occurred, saying, “She suddenly screamed in the middle of the night, and we tried to save her, but our house doesn’t have a door.”
Her mother, Ruby, shared that she was sleeping inside while her daughter was outside with her grandmother. “She screamed suddenly as the wolf caught her, but when we all screamed, neighbors came, and the wolf fled from the village,” she said.

Meanwhile, ADG Zone Gorakhpur Dr. KS Pratap Kumar addressed the wolf attacks, stating, “The Forest Department is implementing a specialized strategy with police cooperation. The area has been divided into seven teams, with each Gram Panchayat assigned a police team. We are confident of success soon.”

The Uttar Pradesh Police and the Forest department are continuing their search for two killer wolves under ‘Operation Bhediya’ in Bahraich district. The forest department had earlier caught four wolves. The pack of wolves is said to be behind several attacks on villagers in the region.

Meanwhile late on Monday (September 2) night, a five-year-old girl was injured in another alleged wolf attack in the same area. The girl has been sent to Community Health Centre Mahasi where her treatment is underway. The girl was sleeping next to her grandmother at her home when suddenly a wolf attacked her, however swift action from her family members and neighbours saved her life. Kalim, one of the neighbors of the girl child told ANI that as soon as they heard screams of the family, they immediately went to save her and chased the wolf but the wolf managed to escape from the village. He also conveyed that it was the first time a wolf came to their village.

After the incident, the administration and the forest department also came to the site. We chased him (wolf) but it escaped into the fields in the eastern side. “This was the first time that a wolf came into our village”, on resident said.
Family Recounts Terrifying Wolf Attack; Authorities Launch Coordinated Capture Effort

Her mother Ruby said, “I was sleeping inside the house and she was sleeping outside with her grandmother. She suddenly screamed as the wolf had caught her. After we all screamed, neighbors came and that wolf escaped from the village.”
Meanwhile, ADG Zone Gorakhpur Dr KS Pratap Kumar on wolf attacks, said, “Under a specialised strategy, the Forest Department is implementing a program in which the police department would also cooperate. The whole area has been divided into 7 teams. Every Gram panchayat is also given a police team. Surely, we will be successful soon.”

On Monday, a three-year old girl was killed and two other women were injured in another wolf attack, spreading anger among the locals, who blamed that the administration for showing negligence in their work.
Villagers recite verses from Valmiki Ramayana
In an attempt to prevent further wolf attacks, villagers in Pandohiya gathered at a local temple, reciting the Sunderkand Path from the Ramayana. Some held the religious text in their hands, while others followed along using mobile phones.

The temple priest told ANI that the entire village is participating in the Sunderkand Path to protect themselves from wolf attacks, as the authorities arrive after incidents but leave without resolving the issue. “We are reciting the Sunderkand Path out of fear of these wild animal attacks, especially from wolves. We are terrified and have to stay awake at night due to the lack of electricity in our village. That’s why we have turned to Bajrangbali for protection. The administration and forest department come after an attack but leave empty-handed. Bajrangbali is our protector, so we have all gathered here to recite the Sunderkand Path,” the priest explained.
Arvind Kumar Singh, a villager, added, “People are terrified by the wolves’ menace, which is why we are praying. The administration and forest department visit after attacks but leave without a solution. Now, only Bajrangbali can protect us.”
