    Military History of India……

    The Chief of the Army Staff is the head of the military staff of the Indian Army and the chairman of the Indian Army Board.

    The Chief is usually the highest ranking officer of the Indian army unless the Chief and Vice Chief of Defence are army officers.

    The position is abbreviated as COAS in Indian Army, and is always held by a full general.

    The general is responsible for directing and chairing the army staff of the armed forces serving as the staff’s chief executive.

    As the most senior officer to serve in the Indian Army, the Chief of the Army Staff is a military adviser to the Government of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Defence. The current COAS is General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who took office on 31 December 2019.

    Ladakh Amid Border Row with China

    There were report earlier in September that Chinese Army officials were also spotte at various posts along with Pakistan’s side of the Line of Control (LoC) During his visit,

    Naravane will review the prevailing security situation and operationals preparedness in eastern Ladakh comes amid the continuing border row with china.

    Earlier in April, Naravane had visited eastern Ladakh and Siachen to review India’s operational preparedness in the strategically key sectors.

    He was accompanied by Lt Gen YK Joshi, Army Commander of the Northern Command,

    and Lt Gen PGK Menon, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Leh-based Fire & Fury Corps.

    According to an official release, Gen Naravane interacted with the troops and complimented them for their steadfastness and high morale,

    while being deploye in some of the harshest terrain, altitude and weather conditions.

    On Monday, the Indian Army said the Chinese military carried out “provocative military movements”

    to “unilaterally” change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong Lake on the intervening night of

    August 29 and 30 but the attempt was thwarte by the Indian troops.

    External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava on Tuesday said that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army(PLA) was engaged in “provocative action”

    again a day earlier when the ground commanders of the two sides were holding talks to ease the situation.

    Following the attempts,

    the Indian Army strengthened its presence in at least three strategic heights in the southern bank of Pangong lake.
