The individual involved in the deadly SUV-bike collision in Gurugram, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Akshat Garg, is a repeat offender who has previously been fined for driving on the wrong side and for improper parking. Akshat died last week when his bike was struck by an SUV being driven recklessly in the wrong direction on Golf Course Road in DLF Phase II. After his arrest, the accused also failed to present his driving licence. Additionally, India Today has learned that Thakur contacted an acquaintance to obtain a backdated driving licence.

He claimed to be unaware of the situation and referred the inquiry to someone else. Kuldeep also reportedly requested a lawyer from him on the day of the accident. Footage recorded on a GoPro camera worn by the victim’s biker friend showed the Mahindra 3XO SUV being driven recklessly at high speed on the wrong side of the road. Notably, the SUV had a BJP sticker on its bonnet.

Amid an outrage over the incident, senior police officer Vikas Kaushik said the accused has not been able to produce his driving licence yet and stringent sections would be added against the accused in the case. “The accused has not been able to produce his driving licence yet, so we are assuming that he does not have one. I have instructed the police to add the relevant sections again and take further action,” Kaushik said. The impact of the collision flung Akshat Garg above the SUV, and his motorcycle was mangled beyond recognition. Garg was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
