A 20-year-old student reportedly died by suicide at IIT Guwahati, as stated by the police on Friday. The first-year BTech student was discovered deceased in his hostel room on Wednesday night. According to sources cited by NDTV, the student’s body was found by security guards while his roommate was absent. Additionally, a note recovered from the room has been forwarded for forensic examination, as confirmed by the police. “We are investigating all possible angles and awaiting the autopsy report,” police said

The student’s family from Bihar demands a probe into his death, citing institute negligence. Police suspect suicide due to stress and are conducting a post-mortem examination.

In January, a fourth year BTech student was rushed to hospital in an unconscious state after a New Year party where she was declared dead by doctors. Recently, another IIT Guwahati student was detained after he allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS.
