Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that an investigation is underway to uncover the cause of 17 deaths in the Badhaal village in Rajouri district, assuring the public that all concerns will be addressed soon.
During his visit to Badhaal village to offer condolences to the grieving families, Abdullah emphasized that constructing large hospitals everywhere is not feasible. However, he assured that efforts would focus on addressing gaps in healthcare at the district level to improve medical services in remote areas.

Seventeen individuals, including 13 children from three related families, passed away under unexplained circumstances between December 7 and January 19.
“We need answers to why this happened in Badhaal village. It’s not a disease, and the police are investigating. A special investigation team has formed to complete the probe. The Centre has also sent a team that is collecting samples and conducting their analysis. I assure everyone that the civil administration, police, and the Government of India will work together to uncover the truth behind this incident,” said the chief minister.
The health department activated teams and worked with other departments. The district administration focused on determining the causes of the deaths. Initially, the priority was to check if a disease was responsible and prevent its spread. Comprehensive tests were done, confirming no bacteria or viruses, the chief minister stated.
