Even captain Rohit Sharma, while revealing India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, unintentionally hinted at the issue, stating, “I need to sit down with the secretary to discuss certain matters, including family and other things.”
Kapil Dev on BCCI’s Family Rule: Striking a Balance Between Support and Professionalism
As per the new protocols, a cricketer’s family is no longer allowed to travel with them on tours that are less than 15 days. Hence, for the Champions Trophy, certain family members, such as Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma, was in town to witness India’s matches against Pakistan, Australia and of course, New Zealand. While players have remained tight-lipped about BCCI’s fresh set of protocols, Kohli took a swipe at the board for not allowing family on tours.
Kohli stressed the unmatched support of family during tough times, beyond what teammates can offer. Meanwhile, Kapil Dev weighed in on the debate, advocating for a balanced approach that considers both personal well-being and team responsibilities.
