A large number of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday morning. They came to bathe in the ‘holy waters,’ marking the beginning of the Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins. More than 40 lakh pilgrims, many of whom traveled from various parts of India and abroad, took part in the sacred ‘Shahi Snan’ ritual.
The 45-day Maha Kumbh festival, running from January 13 to February 26, is expected to draw around 45 crore people. The event will showcase India’s vibrant cultural heritage and spiritual traditions. This grand festival is celebrated once every 12 years.

Grand security arrangements for Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins
The Uttar Pradesh police have implemented tight security measures for public safety during the Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins. For the first time, underwater drones, capable of diving 100 meters, will monitor the Sangam area. Tethered drones reaching 120 meters will track crowd sizes and pinpoint areas needing medical or security help. Over 2,700 AI-powered cameras with facial recognition will be placed at entry points. Additionally, 56 cyber experts will monitor online threats, and cyber help desks are set up at all police stations.
Authorities have arranged 150,000 tents for the pilgrims, along with extra toilets and sanitation services. Additionally, 450,000 new electricity connections have been installed, with the Kumbh expected to consume more electricity than the monthly usage of 100,000 urban apartments in the area.
