Two goods trains collided with each other near Singhpur railway station, Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The collision was so intense that the engines of the trains caught fire and coaches overturned.
The drivers of the trains were injured in the accident. Two railway workers were feared trapped under the coaches.
According to the information received, the goods trains collided with each other 10 km before Shahdol on the Bilaspur to Katni railway route. The train caught fire after the head-on collision. The accident was so severe that the engine of another train climbed on top of one engine.
“Pilot of the stationary train that was hit by the train coming from Anuppur side, Rajesh Pratap, 51, had died and four others have sustained severe injuries,” Shahdol, GRP incharge, Foolkumar Kerketta told TOI.
Senior officials of the South East Central Railway (SECR) will probe into the causes that led to the incident. Train commutation on Bilashpur-Katni route has been affected. Saket Ranjan, CPRO, SECR said, “Prima facie signal overshoot had led to derailment”.
