    The West Bengal Police has lodged a complaint against members of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged molestation and unlawful entry into a residence following the agency’s raid in East Medinipur district regarding the 2002 bomb blast case. The district police initiated a case against NIA officials for molestation allegations, which ignited a political dispute between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.

    West Bengal Police Files FIR Against NIA After Mob Attack

    The West Bengal Police filed the FIR on Sunday following an incident where a mob attacked a team of NIA officials during a raid in East Medinipur district. The BJP claimed that the assault on the NIA was orchestrate by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

    Based on a complaint from a woman, the East Medinipur police registered the FIR against NIA and CRPF officials. She alleged that she and her husband were assaulted by the officials, and she was subjected to indignity. The FIR includes charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as 325, 34, 354, 354(b), 427, 448, and 509.

    NIA Raid Sparks Mob Attack: Allegations of Molestation

    During an attempt to arrest TMC’s Manobrata Jana and Bailicharan Maity in connection with the 2022 Bhupatinagar blast, a mob allegedly attacked a team of NIA officials. Moni Jana, wife of Manobrata Jana, filed a complaint with the Bhupatinagar police station, accusing NIA officers of attempting to outrage her modesty after forcibly entering her residence under the guise of conducting an investigation. According to a police officer, the NIA officials also reportedly vandalized her home during the raid. The complaint included charges under IPC Section 354, which pertains to assaulting a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty.
