    The government has announced that the online portal for passport applications will be temporarily unavailable for a scheduled maintenance period from 8:00 PM IST on August 29, 2024, to 6:00 AM IST on September 2, 2024. During this time, the system will not be accessible to the public or to various authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Regional Passport Offices (RPOs), Border Officials (BOI), Indian Security Press (ISP), Department of Posts (DoP), and police authorities.

    Impact of Maintenance on Passport Appointments: Booking and Rescheduling Details

    As a result of this maintenance, no new appointments for passport services can be booked.any existing appointments will need to be rescheduled. Specifically, appointments that were originally set for August 30, 2024, will be adjusted.affected applicants will be notified of their new appointment times.

    The External Affairs Ministry has described this maintenance as a routine procedure. They have assured the public that they have contingency plans in place to handle the rescheduling of appointments effectively. According to a ministry source, such maintenance activities are planned well in advance to avoid causing inconvenience to the public. The aim is to ensure that the rescheduling process is managed smoothly and efficiently, with minimal disruption to services.

    The Passport Seva portal allows individuals to schedule appointments at centers nationwide for new passport applications or renewals. On the appointment day, applicants must visit the passport centers to submit their documents for verification. After this, a police verification is conducted, and the passport is then delivered to the applicant’s address. Applicants can choose between two processing options: the regular mode, which delivers the passport within 30 to 45 working day. Or the Tatkaal mode, which ensures delivery in a shorter time frame.
